The Work-Ordered Day

Our Clubhouse thrives on a structured system known as the work-ordered day. This eight-hour period, running from Monday to Friday, mirrors the business hours of our local community. During this time, members and staff work side by side as colleagues, contributing to the essential tasks that keep our community vibrant and thriving.

A cornerstone of The Lotus House is relationship building. We all collaborate in every aspect of the club. We offer four dynamic work units for members to get involved in. After completing an orientation, members can choose the unit that best fits their interests and goals.

Administration Unit Data entry, receptionist, manage lunch tickets, and reach out. We also run the Thrift Store.
Wellness Unit Plan, prepare and serve lunch. Order food, maintain the food budget and run the Lotus Lounge Snack Bar.
Media Unit Creating media related to our Clubhouse, the newsletter, and social media postings.
Personal Development Unit Anything related to personal development; employment preparedness, housing support, going back to school, locating resources, etc.

Empowering Employment Opportunities at The Lotus House

At The Lotus House, our mission is to empower members to successfully engage in meaningful, paid employment and break free from poverty.

Employment is a Right of Membership. We believe that holding a job and earning a living are crucial for social engagement and recovery from mental illness. Our Clubhouse is dedicated to finding and providing job opportunities that help members transition back into competitive employment, with personalized support at their own pace.

Levels of Employment Support at The Lotus House:

Transitional Employment (TE) – We partner with local employers, including Pet Land and West Ridge Mall, to offer competitive jobs with market wages. We provide on-site training, support, and absentee coverage during the 6 to 9-month placements. This intensive support is ideal for members entering the workforce for the first time or re-entering after an extended absence. TE jobs are part-time and allow members to retain Public Assistance Benefits such as SSI, SSDI, and SNAP.

Supported Employment – We offer ongoing support for members seeking employment, including job training, overcoming employment barriers (e.g., transportation), resume building, interview preparation, and career planning.

Independent Employment – For those ready to take the next step, we provide personalized support tailored to each member’s unique needs, helping them achieve their employment goals.

Housing

At The Lotus House, we are committed to supporting our members in becoming good neighbors and tenants, regardless of their housing situation. We strive to eliminate the stigma that individuals with mental illness cannot be excellent neighbors or tenants. Our goal is to provide the support our members need to achieve the quality of life they desire.

The Lotus House is dedicated to helping members find and maintain affordable housing in their preferred areas. We recognize that some members may be homeless or in need of better housing, and we continuously seek innovative solutions to help them secure safe, affordable homes. We partner with local organizations to offer intensive housing support for those experiencing homelessness. Our mission is to help all our members find living situations that meet their needs and support their freedom of choice.

Socialization

At The Lotus House, we understand the importance of flexibility and social engagement in supporting mental health recovery. That’s why we offer extended hours and social outings to benefit our members.

Extended Hours

We are open from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday evenings, our activities vary such as community shopping, games, and dinner at the Clubhouse. Our extended hours provide members with more opportunities to engage in meaningful activities, access support, and connect with others. This flexibility helps accommodate different schedules and ensures that members can participate in our programs at times that work best for them.

Friendly Festivities

The third Saturday of each month is our friendly festivities from 10am to 2pm, and other various times based on the activity planned. We plan the activity on the first and second Monday of each month, all members are welcome to join and have input in the activity.
